Is MDR-TB on the rise in Mozambique? Results of a national drug resistance survey

چکیده
consider only the samples sent from regional or remote sources, the rate of indeterminate test result is still very low (one (0.3%) out of 317). The use of T-Cell Xtend for all samples shipped overnight is likely to have had a beneficial effect on older samples. The cold weather conditions had no influence on the rate of indeterminate results (all samples were sent and processed in winter). The number of tests performed in very young or very old patients being small, we cannot assess the rate of indeterminate in these population groups.

A STUDY OF MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS DRUG RESISTANCE IN PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS
Tuberculosis remains a major public health problem in both developing and developed countries. Drug-resistant tuberculosis is an increasing health problem and serious challenge to tuberculosis (TB) control programs. Information about the susceptibility pattern of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates against anti-tuberculosis drugs is an important aspect to TB control. The objectives of the s...
متن کاملDrug resistance pattern and associated risk factors of tuberculosis patients in Iran\'s Central Province
Background: One of the fundamental issues of infectious disease treatment is drug resistance. The aim of the present study was to investigate the first-line anti-tuberculosis drug resistance rates and determine the risk factors related to multidrug resistant mycobacterium tuberculosis. Methods: From March 2011 to September 2012, mycobacterial strains were collected from one hundred fifteen diagn...
متن کاملDrug-resistant tuberculosis in Central Mozambique: the role of a rapid genotypic susceptibility testing
BACKGROUND Genotypic molecular testing may be very helpful for tuberculosis (TB) drug-resistance surveillance and for treatment guidance in low resource settings. METHODS Descriptive analysis of M. tuberculosis isolates from Beira Central Hospital, Mozambique, during 2014-2015. Genotype MTBDRplus and MTBDRsl were used and patient medical records reviewed. To explore genotypic susceptibility p...
متن کاملUnderreported Threat of Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis in Africa
Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) in Africa may be more prevalent than previously appreciated. Factors leading to development of drug resistance need to be understood to develop appropriate control strategies for national programs. We gathered estimates of MDR TB rates for 39 of 46 countries in Africa. The relationship between MDR TB rates and independent factors was analyzed by using c...
متن کاملAnti-tuberculosis drug resistance among tuberculosis patients in Ukraine and risk factors for MDR-TB
Ukraine is one of the 10 countries in the world with the highest MDR-TB burden. With technical support from WHO, the national TB programme conducted the first countrywide survey from November 2013 to May 2014 to identify MDR-TB levels and its risk factors. MDR-TB was detected in 24.1% (95% CI: 20.7– 27.6) of new patients and 58.1% (95% CI: 52.1– 64.1) of previously treated patients. Risk factor...
